Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community
7.1 Meet professional ethics and responsibilities
I met this standard by understanding the codes and ethics at Footscray City Collage. I had in my classroom a uniform code of conduct. For each time I marked the roll I would see if all students are wearing the right uniform, if they weren’t I would mark it down and let my mentor teacher know. I also enforced the discipline policy at the school. The school policy was to give a warning, then move the student, once the student is moved if they keep misbehaving and disrupting the class they are to be sent out. I did have to ask a student to leave my classroom because the student was misbehaving and disruptive to other. I then had to talk to the student outside the classroom and made it clear that it was his responsibility to try to get the best education he can and he can only do that if he listens and participates in class. By appealing to the student's better nature, I was able to get student to behave after returning from time out.
7.3 Engage with the parents/carers
Attending parent teacher meeting and talking about student with behavioural issue with parent who had no control over him. My mentor talk about alternative school and asked the parent to talk to the welfare coordinator. My mentor did not judge the parent and empathized with her situation as a sick, disabled single parent with a 16 year-old son who may/may not be suffering from depression. He only spoke about the student and his family situation with the coordinator. He also told me to not discuss this with other PSTs and to keep confidentiality.
